Mission Statement

The purpose of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York is to provide, economically, a fair, consistent, and effective forum for the protection and marshaling of assets, the discharge or adjustment of debts, and timely distribution of property or securities, in accordance with applicable law.

Reappointment of Bankruptcy Judge Carla Craig

The current term of office of Bankruptcy Judge Carla Craig, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of New York is due to expire on February 27, 2014. The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit is considering the reappointment of Judge Craig to a new term of office and has determined that she appears to merit reappointment subject to public notice and opportunity for public comment.

Limited-Access ECF Registration

Employees of institutional creditors may obtain a limited-access account to file electronically proofs of claim on the Court's Electronic Case File (ECF) System.

Amended Guidelines for Professional Fees and Disbursements

Please be advised that  General Order 447 "Amended  Guidelines for Professional Fees and Disbursements for Professionals in Southern District of New York Bankruptcy Cases" will be effective February 5, 2013.
